A critical step in accelerating literacy growth in the Garland, Sachse, and Rowlett communities is developing partnerships and collaboration with community organizations and businesses.
What are Community Partners?
Community Partners are individuals, agencies, organizations, and businesses that value literacy and making a positive impact on the Garland, Sachse, and Rowlett communities.
Community Partners raise awareness of the Literacy for Life initiative and the impact of the importance of equity and access to literacy. They also strive to develop a culture of literacy that engages and empowers every family.
How Community Partners can support the Literacy for Life initiative right now:
- Help spread the word about the initiative through their own communications channels
- Provide prizes for the monthly reading campaigns or challenges
- Donate to the Garland ISD Education Foundation’s grants and scholarships for literacy instruction with myON Reader and myON News
- Establish technology grants to purchase tablets and Wi-Fi hotspots for community organizations and the Reading with Rodney mobile library
- Adopt a local school by funding their myON subscription, providing unlimited access to needed digital reading materials
- Participate in Community Read-Alouds through the GISD Family and Community Engagement Department
- Organization members can become Reading Buddies and read aloud with students in GISD
